Holistic Health Care Solution to Prescription Addiction.
I am angry about the state of “reality” that is considered normal, and specifically about the practice of “MEDICINE” today. Fortunately I am able to help people HEAL and RECOVER using natural methods and an integrative, functional HOLISTIC health model based on native science.
Since I began my Holistic Health practice in 2010, I have had the opportunity to walk scores of clients through difficult passages of illness, to witness breakthroughs, and to see people become free of medications and their incredibly difficult and life-challenging side effects, to live fuller, happier lives.
With a specialty in natural support for people with mood and sleep disorders, I have seen some extremely challenging cases come through.
I assisted one person who had taken himself cold turkey off a very serious, addictive prescription medication for a life-long sleep disorder, and was near death when he dragged himself into my home office. There are millions who don’t have access to knowledgeable help, who suffer protracted withdrawals for 20 years to life, while practicing physicians have the gaul to tell them it has nothing to do with the medications and they’ll be fine, or slap on fresh diagnoses and prescribe the next anti-psychotic, tranquilizer, benzodiazepine or antidepressent medication on the list. In my book, that would be the definition of malpractice.
One of the greatest challenges in my practice has been with clients on prescription meds. If they are coming to me, it is because they need to get off of them, or they need support the meds aren’t addressing (which is plenty). Prescription meds have a LOT of interactions, the majority of which are completely ignored by doctors, as well as patients, because the data is so overwhelming that it is functionally unmanageable. My personal orientation and scope of practice require that I collaborate with a prescribing physician.
This fall, Paula walks in the door. Her psychiatrist has refused to help her taper or otherwise adjust her prescription despite her changing needs. Overmedicated and underserved by 30 years of chemical cocktails in her system, this client is ready to live life on her own terms. I make a round of calls, and by the grace of the healing gods, find my way to a doctor who gets the problem and agrees to help. I orient her to the protocols, refer the client for the required compounding prescriptions, and we begin preparation for withdrawal. Dialing in the dietary components and nutritional support results in a rapid improvement of her stress level, representing as decreased anxiety and improved cognitive function.
We have just begun the taper, and this requires some extra client contact and possible finessing to avoid activating withdrawal symptoms. It is complicated to work with a team and consult back and forth, and it is time-consuming, but this is about life. It’s worth it to me.
Last night the doctor gets annoyed by the required contacts, and rushes through her consult with the client without listening to all the components during check in. She makes a bad call. I catch it and straighten it out before the client takes her evening dose. I follow up with the client this morning to make sure we’re on track. She reports she is better than ever! The doc’s mistake could have meant a disaster for the client today, and out of expediency would have resulted in a return to the previous over-medication.
I am sitting with gratitude for the opportunity to serve at this level, and simultaneously with RAGE for the norm that makes people RUSH around with people’s LIVES hanging in the brink.
Fiercely committed to bringing balance to the human race, I am determined to take this up beyond individual and group health coaching. Creating the architecture for the future of medicine, effective collaboration is one key to the kingdom. I am building a coalition of pioneers ready to reclaim health care.
